For this project, we had to
create a
magazine spread on a New York Times
student
article contest winner.
I was
assigned the article “Endangered
Languages are Worth Saving” by Zoe Yu,
which discusses the impact of language
and why languages are worth saving,
considering their literary context and
historical influence.
While considering what I wanted to do, I thought
about the author’s heritage and my own connection
as an Asian American, and about wanting to connect
with my culture and language. This eventually led me
into the realm of traditional Chinese porcelain and how
its fracturing could relate to the idea of preserving and
piecing together culture and language.
